Taipei: An 80,000 tonne cargo ship collided with a port in Taiwan, as a result of which two engineers were buried when cranes collapsed.
According to the International News Agency, an 80,000 tonne cargo ship approaching a southern port of Taiwan collided with a high crane, as a result of which the crane collapsed. Two engineers were buried under a heavy crane.
Rescue workers began the rescue operation and evacuated the two engineers trapped under the crane to a hospital. An engineer’s condition is said to be critical. The port remained closed for several hours due to the accident.
The Ministry of Shipping and Ports has formed an inquiry committee to investigate the incident, while the crane-owned company has said it intends to sue the cargo ship company over the injuries of its engineers.
