Civil war in Afghanistan after US withdrawal: Russian Defense Minister
Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu has expressed fears of a civil war in Afghanistan following the withdrawal of US troops.
Addressing a Moscow conference on international security, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said it was impossible to keep Afghan groups united without Islamabad and Tehran, and that Afghanistan’s neighbors and international organizations should pay attention to the situation.
He said that the capabilities of the SCO should be utilized, the Joint Security Agreement (CSTO) would take necessary security measures, and the defense capabilities of the CSTO member countries should be enhanced.
Earlier, US Senator Lance Graham had said in a statement that US President Joe Biden’s failure to contact Pakistan over the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan would be a disaster.
