WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Vice President Kamala Harris took over the presidency of the country on Tuesday after President Joe Biden fell ill and fainted for a medical test.
According to the World News Agency, Vice President Kamala Harris became the first woman president in the history of the United States.
This interesting situation arose when 79-year-old US President Joe Biden had to be anesthetized in the hospital for medical examination and colonoscopy. Prior to the operation, the president had delegated all his powers to the vice president.
Constitutionally, Kamala Harris became the President of the United States, but as soon as she regained consciousness after the colonoscopy, Biden said in her statement that she should be healthy and ready to run the affairs of the country.
Thus, just 85 minutes later, Kamala Harris became the Vice President again. Kamala Harris, the first female president and the shortest-serving president, is also the first black American vice president.
White House Press Secretary Jane Sackie said the transfer of power to the president was in line with the US Constitution and was not the first time this had happened. Earlier, President George W. Bush adopted a similar approach in 2002 and 2007.
