Russia announces sanctions on US president and Canadian PM
MOSCOW (Reuters) – Russian officials facing international sanctions following the invasion of Ukraine have retaliated by imposing sanctions on Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and US President Joe Biden, among others.
According to a report by a foreign news agency, the Moscow government banned Justin Trudeau, Joe Biden and other top US government officials from entering Russia and froze their current assets. The list of Russian sanctions includes US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) chief William Burns and National Security Adviser Jack Sullivan.
The report says that after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, other countries, including the United States, imposed sanctions on the Moscow government, in response to which the Russian government announced the sanctions.
The US president’s son Hunter and former secretary of state Hillary Clinton have also come under Russian sanctions. Russia’s foreign ministry has warned that sanctions could soon be imposed on military officers, businessmen and journalists.
Russia’s Defense Ministry, meanwhile, has claimed full control of the Kherson region in southern Ukraine.
