Scientists made eco-friendly shoes from seaweed
SAN DIEGO: U.S. scientists have developed environmentally friendly footwear that uses oils derived from seaweed (algae) that dissolve into harmless substances within a year. And they do not cause an increase in pollution.
The technology used to convert algae oil into biodegradable rubber and plastic, used in the manufacture of these shoes, has been developed by experts at the University of California, San Diego.
To turn this technology into a lucrative business, the university has set up a spin-off company called El Genesis, which has introduced these shoes as its first product, the BlueView.
The rubber used in the soles of these shoes is made by undergoing a special chemical reaction with seaweed oil.
In addition to being eco-friendly, the rubber is biodegradable, meaning that certain microscopic organisms slowly consume it and convert it into harmless substances, and it dissolves completely in just one year. ۔
These microscopic creatures are found in the ocean, so if these shoes are thrown into the ocean, marine germs will devour them in just six months.
The upper bouts featured two cutaways, for easier access to the higher frets. The upper bouts featured two cutaways, for easier access to the higher frets.
With all its eco-friendly features, these shoes are available online at a price of 13 135 per pair.
El Genesis plans to use the same technology to make more common-use products after “BlueView”.
