South African cricketer and his wife convert to Islam
Johannesburg: South African cricketer Bowan Fortin and his wife have converted to Islam.
According to foreign media, 26-year-old South African spinner Bowan Fortin and his wife Mushki Essen have converted to Islam, their new Muslim name is Emad.
Fortin, who made his debut for the Proteas in 1919, is the second South African cricketer to convert to Islam. Van Parnell also joined the fold in 2011.
Fortune was congratulated by his teammate Tabriz Shamsi and his wife for converting to Islam.
Social media users are also expressing good wishes for Fortin to become a Muslim during the holy month of Ramadan.
The 26-year-old cricketer made his world debut for the South African team in September 2019.
Bowan Fortin is the second member of the South African cricket team to have converted to Islam. Before that, medium fast bowler Parnell also converted to Islam in 2011.
