Taliban could capture Kabul in next 90 days: US officials
A US official has suggested that the Afghan capital could come under pressure within 30 days and that the Taliban could take over Kabul in the next 90 days.
According to the American TV channel CBS, the Taliban have taken over 65% of Afghanistan and their advance is continuing.
Clashes continue between Afghan forces and the Taliban, and the Taliban attacked the city of Herat last night.
The governor of Herat says the Taliban are facing stiff resistance from security forces and civilian forces, with government forces pushing the Taliban back from Herat city.
According to Afghan media, fierce clashes are also going on between security forces and Taliban in Ghazni. The police headquarters in the province has been captured by the Taliban while clashes are going on near the provincial building.
The Taliban’s next target
According to Afghan media reports, the Taliban have taken control of nine provincial capitals of Afghanistan in a few days and Mazar-e-Sharif, the headquarters of Balkh province, is the next possible target of the Taliban.
On the other hand, after successive defeats and failure to stop the Taliban’s advance, Afghan Army Chief of Staff Abdul Wali Ahmadzai has been fired and General Hebatullah Alizai has been appointed as the new army chief.
