US decides to send 3,000 troops to Afghanistan
New York: The United States has decided to send troops to Afghanistan to evacuate its diplomats and staff in Kabul.
About 3,000 troops will be sent to Afghanistan to evacuate US diplomats and diplomatic staff, Defense Department officials told CNN.
US Secretary of State Ned Price said in a briefing at the White House that the purpose of sending troops to Afghanistan was to ensure the safety of their diplomatic staff and ensure their safe return.
“US forces will assist in the relocation operation there, but as we know, Hamid Karzai International Airport will remain open and commercial flights will continue to land and take off from this airport,” he said.
